'Sailing Stories' is the latest podcast from Andy Schell & 59 North, Ltd. Tales from the high seas, told week by week. The podcast will feature several different 'seasons' each based on a book that we love, professionally narrated and released weekly in a 'serialized' format. At the end of each season, the complete audiobook will be made available for purchase. We'll also feature mini-seasons in between our full-length seasons to keep the content coming!

Season 4 Preview

 Season 4 of Sailing Stories features Into the Raging Sea, the gripping and tragic story of “Thirty-three mariners, one megastorm, and the sinking of EL FARO,” written by Rachel Slade.

This is a special season for us, supported by Nanny Cay Marina in the BVI, 59 North’s ‘homeport’ in the Caribbean, and made possible by the enthusiasm of the book’s author, Rachel Slade, and the ‘outside the box’ thinking of her publishers at Harper Collins who agreed to let us run the audio on Sailing Stories.

The season will release Thursday December 5, with the first three episodes dropping at once, and will continue weekly through the end of January. But you have to follow in real-time! Each episode will ‘disappear’ from the podcast feed 48 HOURS after it’s release.

Season 3, releasing Thursday Sept. 26, 2019 features the story of the SV Delos & 59 North crew’s adventures in the High Arctic. The audio is adapted from the book by the same name that we produced following the summer in the Arctic in 2018 aboard ISBJORN. This season picks up in May, when we sail ISBJORN across the Arctic Circle, and traces our route NORTH, NORTH, NORTH!, all the way to Spitsbergen. The SV Delos crew joins us in Longyearbyen and for the next 3 weeks we adventure with polar bears, glaciers, walrus and 1º C swimming! The season wraps up with the 1,000-mile passage south to ICELAND, where we pass the Arctic Circle again, this time going south.

Season Two features the exciting release, for the first time in English, of Yves Gélinas' book Jean-du-Sud & the Magick Byrd, the story of his solo, non-stop circumnavigation via the Great Capes in his beloved Alberg 30. The book was only ever published in French, so we'll be simultaneously released the English book in print and in our unique, serialized audio format through the podcast. Yves himself will be narrating the book in his charming and friendly style. Yves is also inventor of the Cape Horn windvane, which Andy & Mia used on Arcturus to cross the Atlantic to Sweden.
